Cat in the Box

My cat, Pita, in a box of Sierra Nevada

A cat in
A box is
A situation I
May never understand
Only that I
Wish I myself
Were a cat
In a box.

I cannot claim to know why cat’s love boxes.  The above poem reflects my amusement of our feline friends’ obsession with jumping into small enclosures, boxes, bathtubs, sinks…I sometimes play peek-a-boo with her or taunt her with little spider hands until she catches it *ouch*.  Regardless, when I bring home a box of brew or open a UPS package, without fail, my curious cat will find her way inside of the box inspecting its contents.

What mischief or simple amusement does your cat get into?  How do you respond?

ha…i would not mind being my cat…being able to lay the way he does and get into places…and yes find simple amusement in a box…we once did as kids remember…

Chloe adores getting in the bath and drinking from the tap so I turn it on very gently fo her edification. She NEVER drinks out of her bowl!

That’s very endearing! A co-worker of mine developed a relationship with his dog where it will not eat unless fed from his hand. I found it incredulous at first, but it’s the interaction and gentle act that reinforce our nurturing behaviors and kindness towards other creatures.

i believe God gave us these creatures as a little gift offering for ou amusement and enjoyment and sometimes to replace the families we lost or never had. But also we have to look after them and be so very tender! Another poem for you or me to write!!

Thank you for sharing your poem: http://johndwmacdonald.com/2012/03/08/goodbye-now-my-brother/. Wise words! Boys and girls will use their surroundings as props for their stage. Imagination takes off and everything becomes a part of their adventure. We adults should join in their adventure rather than tell them, “no!”. Fostering the creative spirit is of paramount importance. When we impress rules and restrictions they cease to imagine.

Maybe the education of the young should be in the hands of the poets. Not maybe. Absolutely. All we’d ned is good PAs!!!

I’ve often wished the same thing re: my cat! Even more than being in a box, though, I’d love to be a cat luxuriating in sunlight on a window ledge.

  4. haciendatreasures says :

In this case, it is called the Sierra Syndrome, or, better put, “Give me a brew.”

  5. zen and the art of borderline maintenance says :

I love watching our three kitties get into boxes. They even know the word box. :-)
    I like your post.

  6. claudia says :

smiles…she’s cute…and cats are just so curious..love this…and think we could learn the one or other thing from them…smiles

  7. Sheila says :

lol – this is so adorable! Wish I wasn’t allergic to cats, otherwise I’d have one :)

  8. tashtoo says :

Oh yes…I covet such a life…to lounge, to explore, and to lay claim to any piece of cardboard that suits my fancy. My demon beast will fight to the death for a good one!
